In this iconic image taken in June 1989, a Chinese man stands alone to block a line of tanks heading from Tiananmen Square in Beijing. The Tiananmen Square protest was a popular student-led demonstration in favour of freedom of press and government accountability among other demands. The deployment of 200,000 troops to forcefully evict the protesters resulted in great bloodshed and violence – now also known as the Tiananmen Square massacre.
3. SYRIA PROTEST
